Beginning Photography


Offered to sophomore - senior students interested in learning about traditional black/white film photography skills. Topics cover will include photograms, pinhole cameras, enlargers, darkroom chemicals, safety, & maintence, 35mm SLR cameras, black/white film, the elements & principles of art, studio photogrpahy & lighting, sandwich prints, and burn & dodging. This class will culminate with a short research paper and an open final project that the student tailors to their own artist interests.   The 5th edition of the textbook Photography in Focus will be used. 

 

Students will work independently and collaboratively to submit a new photo every week.  Written and verbal critiques are a critical part of our development as an art community and your development as an artists.  After completion of each new photo the work must be documented digitally by the student for development of a portfolio.
