Through Place-Based Pedagogy

 

As I returned to my original question regarding how Chicago’s public art could be a “critical” component in education, little did I know my love had been predicted and shaped by some of Chicago’s earliest city plans. Thirteen years after Chicago’s 1893 World’s Exhibition, Daniel Burnham collaborated with Edward Bennett to plan Chicago’s overarching design, proposing the structure of Chicago’s parks, transportation, streets, and civic buildings, a plan that emphasized the city’s success was dependent upon its efficient design and aesthetic appeal.
