24” x 36” acrylic montage of the architecture of Santa Fe, and Chimayo, New Mexico

and Saucillo, Chihuahua.

The bell tower is the one in Chimayo made famous by Georgia O’Keefe, while the remainder of the mission is derived from the oldest Catholic Mission in America, located in Santa Fe. The sign, from which the title of the piece is derived, was taken on Christmas Day while the artist was in Mexico visiting her unofficially adopted son. He had immigrated illegally to America with his parents when he was three, but as a young adult returned voluntarily to avoid the threat of deportation. The artist’s family anxiously awaits his return to America following the ten year ban which is placed upon all immigrants who have entered America illegally.
