My Wild Bouquet: Sketching My Journey

What is a weed? A plant whose virtues have never been discovered.

~Ralph Waldo Emerson

For this series, I have concentrated on further developing my free style, which comes from applying all sensual observations to my work. I don't limit my images to visual, but incorporate impressions of smell, texture, taste and motion into my strokes. I have borrowed from Raphaelle Ziemba's work on Phenomenology of the Body in which she has theorized that she is able to intimately unite with non-animate objects, absorbing their energy and entering into an inter-subjective relationship with them. She executes her theory beautifully in movement, and I have begun to incorporate it into my art. Drawing upon Plato's concept of mimesis, I play a simple child-like game, "If I were a lupine, I would...," allowing my strokes to embody the completion of the thought. Additionally, I allow the space I shared with these objects, the wildflowers I encountered on my journey, to influence my colors and textures, whether it be wind, rain, silence, sunrise or sunset.
