Responding

Perceive/Analyze/Identify

  • Perceive:
    • What is the content of the public work of art?
    • What stylistic characteristics did the artist use?
    • What techniques did the artist use?
  • Analyze: How does the public artwork relate to the space in which it is displayed?
  • Identify:
    • Why was the piece originally installed?
    • Who originally commissioned the public work of art?
    • Who was the artist’s intended audience?
    • Who currently maintains the piece?
    • How do viewers interact with public art and the space in which it is displayed?
    • What activities do the viewers engage in in the space surrounding the piece?

Interpret:

  • What may have been the artist’s intention when creating the piece?
  • How does the work of art help us understand different places, times and cultures?
  • How do viewers interpret public artwork and the space in which it is displayed?

 

Creating

  • Select a place with personal significance.
  • Create a work of art inspired by content, style, or technique from public artwork examples.
  • Use a variety of materials and tools to create a work of art that communicates the significance of the place.

Relate
