Detailed Assessment Procedures: Eighth Grade

 

Assessment Expectations:

  1. Students will receive instruction that builds upon previous knowledge and skills prior to beginning the assessment, including review of vocabulary and execution of artistic contemporary art practices.
  2. Knowledge and skills in this assessment will be taught both in the classroom and in neighborhood communities in the space created around public art.
  3. Students will have adequate opportunity and time to learn what is expected of them.
  4. Expectations for learning will be clearly stated for students prior to beginning the assessments.
  5. Students will have many opportunities to demonstrate what they have learned and to work through difficulties they may experience.
  6. Students will evaluate one another during the collaborative “Respond” segment of the assessment (See “Scoring Devices: Group Evaluation”).
  7. Students will evaluate themselves during the “Create” segment of the assessment (See “Scoring Devices: Student Self Critique Form”).
  8. Assessment will represent what has been taught or what should have been taught.

Assessment Administration

  1. Teacher will read and present all assessment materials, including glossaries, rubrics and task prompts to students prior to assessment to ensure assessment is implemented uniformly.
  2. Students will receive task sheets with deadlines, glossaries, rubrics and exemplars prior to beginning the assessment.
  3. Teacher will check for understanding and answer clarifying questions students may have regarding the assessment.
  4. Accommodations based upon IEPs or 504 plans will be strictly adhered to at all times.
  5. Teachers will demonstrate all appropriate and required use of materials and processes prior to allowing students to begin the assessments.
  6. At all times during the administration of the assessments, safety and adequate supervision should be a high priority with attention being given to adhering to all school, district, and state policies and procedures, including digital documentation and display of both analysis and display of art work.
  7. Students learning must be assessed based upon identified criteria as delineated in the rubric.
  8. When students work collaboratively, both individual (teacher-based) and collective (peer-based) assessment of learning will be done.
  9. Students must be provided with adequate in and out of class time to complete all components of the assessment.
  10. Feedback regarding individual performances will be provided to all students during and at the completion of assessments.
